880. How to make simple caramel brownies

I made some tasty caramel brownies {from scratch} the other day.  They were delicious but I wanted a way to make them faster and easier {and maybe cheaper}.

Thank you, Betty Crocker!  That woman is amazing.  And her family size chocolate brownie mix is a decent {inexpensive} option for brownies in a pinch.

I get it at Target for about $1.50 – it’s about half the price of Safeway.  Also get yourself a bag of caramels.  I tried the caramel bits, but I think I like the wrapped caramel squares a bit better.  The bits are easier and the brownies were still quite popular, so I think it’s a personal preference.

Betty Crocker, Family Size Chocolate Brownie Mix
1 Bag of Caramels
1 Tbs of Heavy Cream
1/2 cup Milk Chocolate Chips

1.  Prepare the brownie mix per the directions on the box and split in half.

2.  Line an 8″x11″ pan with aluminum foil and spray with pam (or grease with oil)

3.  Pour half the batter into the pan and bake for 20 minutes at 350.

4.  Meanwhile, prepare the caramels.  Mix 1 bag of caramels with 1 Tbsp of cream and heat over medium heat in a saucepan until combined.

5.  Remove brownies and cool for 20 minutes.  Poke holes in the brownies using a fork or skewer after about 10 minutes.

6.  Once cooled, pour caramel over the brownies and spread evenly.

7.  Pour remaining brownie batter over the caramel and spread.

8.  Return brownies to 350 oven for about 25-30 minutes.  Betty Crocker brownie mix can overcook a bit and still be tasty, so don’t worry.

9.  Cool completely and enjoy!
